Spring in a Bottle: Unmissable Men’s Scents for the Season

Whether you’re spending the spring months amid the climatic rollercoaster that is the British Isles or somewhere with far more tropical credentials, curating your perfume selection for the first flush of sunnier weather is never less than a shorthand for distinction.

The Best Spring Perfumes for Men

Switching up your scent for spring, especially after a winter as soggy and grey as the one that’s just passed, isn’t just about maintaining olfactory appearances. It’s a way to add an essence of enduring allure to those first proper forays outside, elevating your swagger for those irresistibly lengthening evenings, or simply marking yourself out as an individual of impeccable taste alongside a newly-refreshed seasonal wardrobe.

With that in mind, The Last Concierge has scoured the world of new scent releases and rediscovered old favourites, here once again to bring you the fragrances sure to mark this spring as one to remember.

Nancy Meiland, Kabosu

An alluring hit of eastern elegance

I can’t get enough of these gender-neutral perfumes that put sophistication and outstanding craftsmanship first this season, and Nancy Meiland’s Kabosu fragrance – which invokes the Japanese tree of the same name and bursts with citrus-inflected, ephemeral blossoms – is right up there with the best of them. Crisp and light, yet with a creamy, suede-like note that warms and swirls as it seduces, it’s a truly remarkable scent that’s guaranteed to elevate confidence throughout both colder and warmer seasons. Utter perfection.

  • Top notes: Lemon, bergamot, green tea

  • Middle notes: Kabosu extract, plum, osmanthus

  • Base notes: Patchouli, birch leaf, tonka bean

Wales Perfumery, Cornovii

Timeless charm that weaves compelling tales

As something of a Celt myself, I can’t help but be drawn to the stunning creativity and artisanal charm of Wales Perfumery’s latest ‘The Celts’ collection. Honouring the tribal history of the British Isles (again, instant cool points for that alone), Cornovii packs in bright, sparkling notes that weave the tale of Cornwall’s ancient trade routes with the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a much-needed blast of sunshine while we wait for the warmer months to fully manifest themselves, and a truly inventive approach to perfumery I’m more than happy to get behind.

  • Top notes: Pomelo, bergamot, lemon and spa water accord

  • Heart notes: Olive fruit absolute, bay leaf, gold and mineral accord

  • Base notes: Frankincense

Mabelle O’Rama, Lunar Dust

To the moon and back

I was hugely impressed by the sheer breathtaking beauty and star-gazing romance of Lunar Dust – inspired by the moon’s cool and seductive glow on dark nights, there’s no shortage of ethereal, gothic charm and celestial energy in this fragrance that couldn’t be more up my street if it tried. Warm amber and cosmic white woods ensure a sensuality that’s ideal for this time of year, and result in a perfume that’s guaranteed to enshroud the wearer in a veil of mystique and charm.

Notes: Iris, cedarwood, amber and white woods

D.S & Durga Cowboy Grass

The scent of country roads that take you home

Ever kicking back against the grain, the D.S & Durga are celebrating a decidedly old-school sense of masculinity with Cowboy Grass, invoking the rugged earthiness of an admittedly cleaner and more sophisticated version of the Wild West in this bottle. Notes of sage, bergamot and vetiver work together to striking effect, resulting in a scent that truly commands attention and never fails to elicit a spirit of springtime adventures.

  • Top notes: Wild thyme, rosewood, bergamot

  • Heart notes: Basil, rose otto, sagebrush

  • Base notes: Grasses, vetiver, ambergris

Diptyque Eau de Minthé

A garden of earthly delights

It’s hard not to be utterly seduced by Diptyque’s commitment to bringing an authentic sense of decadence to their men’s fragrances, which well and truly live up to their art nouveau-inspired label designs and overall aesthetic. Eau de Minthé is a fascinating springtime fragrance - it’s a deeply leafy fougère, almost jungle-like in its depth - that’s elevated with a hit of mint, geranium and florality.

  • Top notes: Nutmeg, fresh mint

  • Heart notes: Rose, geranium

  • Base notes: Patchouli

Lalique Encre Indigo

Embrace the nights of Spring

I’m a huge fan of Lalique fragrances for men - upon meeting the perfume house’s chief perfumier last year at a party, we spoke at length about how the iconic original Encre Noir perfume was the ideal scent for those who once had a goth phase, all forest floors and hints of elegant decay. Encre Indigo brightens things up… but only by a touch, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. This is a pink pepper and vetiver perfume for proudly wearing on hazy spring nights, strutting under the full moon or sipping wine beneath the stars. Delicious.

  • Top notes: Pink pepper, bergamot, bergamot

  • Heart notes: Black tea, bay leaf, saffron

  • Base notes: Patchouli, vetiver, ambergris

Maison Margiela, Sailing Day

To the sea, the sea

Sailing Day is really a summer fragrance… but what’s wrong with bringing on the warmer season a little earlier than expected? It’s a proper standout of the maison’s ‘replica’ collection, which leans into the power of nostalgia - in this perfume’s case, those carefree memories of refreshing breezes and salty air. It’s a revivifying blast of seaweed, ambergris and other marine scents, utterly ideal for afternoons on deck or evenings at a beach bar far from British shores, as refreshing as it is distinctively head-turning.

  • Top notes: Aquatic accords, juniper

  • Heart notes: Coriander, iris, rose

  • Base notes: Red seaweed, ambergris, amber
